Call for Breakout Session Speakers

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Business Officers of Nursing Schools (BONUS) invites submissions for breakout session presentations at the 2027 AACN BONUS Meeting in Anaheim, California.

This year's theme, "Leading and Learning: Business Officers Advancing Excellence in Academic Nursing," celebrates the essential role business officers play in advancing innovation, stewardship, and operational excellence across academic nursing. As schools of nursing navigate evolving financial, workforce, regulatory, and technological challenges, BONUS provides a forum for sharing practical solutions, innovative approaches, and lessons learned.

We invite proposals that inspire learning, encourage collaboration, and provide actionable strategies that attendees can apply within their own institutions.

Abstracts are encouraged in areas including, but not limited to

  • Financial management and strategic budgeting
  • Resource optimization and operational efficiency
  • Clinical placements amid increasing enrollments
  • Student loan funding and implications of the RISE Act
  • Technology innovations and artificial intelligence in administrative operations
  • Compliance, risk management, and auditing
  • Human resources and talent management
  • Managing multiple campus locations
  • Academic-practice partnerships/Faculty practice models
  • Faculty recruitment and retention
  • Change management and process improvement
  • Leadership development and succession planning
  • Business strategies supporting nursing education, research, and practice
  • Innovative approaches to complex operational challenges

Selected presentations should be designed for a 60-minute session, consisting of:

  • Approximately 45 minutes of presentation content
  • 15 minutes for audience questions and discussion

Presentations should include practical takeaways and opportunities for attendee engagement.

Please include the following in your submission:

  • Presentation title
  • Presenter(s) name, title, organization, and contact information
  • Brief presenter biography (150 words maximum per presenter)
  • Three learning objectives
  • Abstract narrative (maximum 500 words)
  • Description of audience engagement strategies
  • Explanation of relevance to the conference theme and BONUS audience

Submissions will be evaluated based on:

  • Relevance to the conference theme
  • Timeliness and significance of the topic
  • Practical application and usefulness to nursing business officers
  • Innovation and originality
  • Quality and clarity of the proposal
  • Potential to engage participants and foster discussion

  • Nursing school business officers
  • Academic nursing administrators
  • Finance and operations leaders
  • Human resources and compliance experts
  • Faculty members with relevant expertise
  • Strategic partners supporting academic nursing operations

Breakout Session Presenters will be notified of proposal decisions following review by the AACN BONUS Planning Committee.
