These 1-hour interactive sessions are intended to explore resources and strategies for teaching and evaluation related to palliative nursing care topics, with a focus on competency-based education.

More About ELNEC

If you are not familiar, the ELNEC Undergraduate/New Graduate and ELNEC Graduate online programs provide state-of-the-art primary palliative care education. Six one-hour modules prepare students with the foundational education needed to care for seriously ill patients and families. These modules align with the 2021 AACN Essentials in the area of primary palliative competencies for undergraduate and graduate nursing students.

If your school is not yet using the ELNEC modules, we are able to provide free access to the curricula for schools of nursing faculty to review. Contact elnec@coh.org to request access.

Coming Fall 2023: Updated ELNEC Undergraduate/New Graduate Modules

ELNEC seeks to ensure students receive the most up-to-date evidence-based information to inform their palliative nursing care. With the AACN Essentials centering palliative and hospice care as a ‘sphere of care’ in nursing education, more and more schools are choosing this standardized educational resource.  The ELNEC Undergraduate/New Graduate curriculum is delivered online through Relias LLC. We are in the final stages of updating the curriculum, including a brand-new look to all the modules. Be on the lookout for these updates in August 2023. If your students have current subscriptions to ELNEC Undergraduate/New Graduate, their accounts will automatically be updated with the new version of the modules waiting to be completed.

Regional Support

ELNEC has identified faculty champions from around the country who are available to support you in advancing palliative care education. Our regional chairs/co-chairs are able to support schools of nursing in considering how to teach students about the unique palliative care needs of their local, diverse communities while also ensuring adherence to state regulatory requirements for academic programs. You can find more information and identify your regional chair on the ELNEC Faculty Corner website. The Faculty Corner also hosts a repository of teaching resources to support faculty in palliative care education. Check back often as new resources are always being added.

Tell us What You Need

Our team is seeking feedback about your unique needs related to palliative care education. Please complete this brief needs assessment survey. We will be sharing results with our regional chairs/co-chairs to help identify ways they can support schools of nursing in your region: Faculty Needs Assessment.

Professional Development Opportunity

Join us for the next ELNEC Summit in Charleston, SC, September 25-26, 2023, to learn more about hospice/palliative/supportive care. This ELNEC Summit offers the following courses: APRN Adult, Core, Critical Care, and Geriatric. Courses are held simultaneously - please choose one. All courses are structured to Train-the-Trainer. Discounts available for multiple colleagues or schools of nursing faculty; please reach out to ELNEC@coh.org for further information.

New to this summit, we will host a follow-up webinar in November for all faculty who attended the course in Charleston. The webinar, led by Drs. Andra Davis and Megan Lippe, will focus on teaching and evaluation of palliative care content within undergraduate and graduate programs. The presenters will also offer strategies to support implementation efforts within your school of nursing.
