Research!America Talks COVID-19 Response Efforts and Challenges Facing the Research Community

On April 30, AACN staff attended a Research!America webinar highlighting how the scientific research community is addressing COVID-19. Dr. Francis Collins, Director of NIH, and Dr. Keith Yamamoto, Vice Chancellor for Science Policy and Strategy and Director of UCSF Precision Medicine, discussed the impact of COVID-19, response efforts, and challenges facing the biomedical research enterprise. Dr. Collins provided an overview of the Accelerating COVID-19 Therapeutic Interventions and Vaccines (ACTIV) partnership, as well as the Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics (RADx) Initiative as part of NIH’s response. Dr. Yamamoto discussed how research has pivoted to determine viral infection outcomes and ways it can have an impact on population health. To view a recording of this call, click here.

National Academy of Medicine to Host Virtual Forum on Clinician Well-Being During COVID-19

On May 7, the National Academy of Medicine’s Action Collaborative on Clinician Well-Being and Resilience will host a webinar titled, Supporting Clinician Well-Being During COVID-19.  This webinar will address the already existing clinician burnout crisis, as well as recognizing the needs and priorities of clinicians as they tackle COVID-19. The expert panel will include Dean of NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing, Dr. Eileen Sullivan-Marx, who will be discussing her experience with managing obstacles that have arisen due to COVID-19. In 2017, the Action Collaborative on Clinician Well-Being and Resilience was launched as a network of more than 60 organizations committed to reversing trends in clinician burnout.
