COVID-19 Legislative Update: AACN’s Higher Education Advocacy

As Congress works to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, AACN has continued to advocate and work with coalition partners to support additional supplemental funding for higher education. Most recently, on May 29, AACN joined with 82 other organizations in the American Council on Education letter reiterating support in the Senate for $46.6 billion to help address student and campus needs. On June 11, 31 Senate Democrats, strengthened this effort by sending a Dear Colleague letter to Senate leadership requesting “$47 billion in financial support for students and institutions of higher learning.” AACN supports additional funding for higher education, nursing education, and for students and will monitor as discussions in Congress continue. AACN Joins with Other Nursing Coalitions in Urging the Administration to Reconsider the U.S. Withdrawal from the WHO

AACN joined with coalition partners, the Nursing Community Coalition, and the Tri-Council for Nursing in requesting the Administration to reconsider the U.S. withdrawal from the World Health Organization (WHO). Both statements outlined the substantial consequences this decision would have on global health, especially as we combat the COVID-19 pandemic. In today’s world, we know that diseases know no borders. Given this, AACN recognizes the need for, and importance of, global information sharing, research, partnerships, and developing vaccines and cures.
