Title VIII Reauthorization Advances to the House Floor
On July 17, the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act of 2019 (H.R. 728) advanced out of the full House Energy and Commerce Committee by unanimous voice vote. The next step is to consider this legislation on the House floor. To continue this momentum when the House reconvenes after the August Recess, please email your member of Congress today asking them to cosponsor and pass Title VIII Reauthorization.

NAM Holds Future of Nursing 2030 Philadelphia Town Hall
Earlier today, the Committee on the Future of Nursing 2030 held its second Town Hall meeting at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. The meeting, which focused on issues related to Payment and Care for Complex Health and Social Needs, is the second of three regional meetings organized by the National Academy of Medicine to gather insight on ways to advance the nursing profession, reduce health disparities, and improve the wellbeing of the nation.

Policy and Practice in the Future of Pain Management
On July 18, AACN staff attended an event hosted by Axios about the future of pain management and the opioid epidemic. The event featured Representative David McKinley (R-WV); Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH); Dr. Marian Sherman, Anesthesiologist and Director of Clinical Operations, Acute Pain Service Faculty, George Washington University Hospital; and Admiral Brett Giroir, MD, Assistant Secretary, Health and Senior Advisor, Opioid Policy, Department of Health and Human Services. Nurses continue to be on the frontlines providing lifesaving treatment, conducting evidence-based research, and educating patients across the country.
