Senate Introduces TRAIN Act to Support Hospital-Based Nursing Schools

On May 11, a bipartisan group of Senators introduced the Technical Reset to Advance the Instruction of Nurses (TRAIN) Act (S.1568), which supports hospital-based nursing schools by providing a technical fix to a Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) program. S.1568 would help ensure these nursing schools, who received funding from CMS in the past, can keep these resources and continue to educate the future nursing workforce without the worry of recoupment efforts. Congress Recognizes and Celebrates National Nurses Week

Over the last year, we have witnessed the courage of our nation’s nurses, nursing students, and faculty as they have bravely served on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic. Their dedication to meeting the healthcare needs of all communities was highlighted by Congress, who introduced H.Res. 390 and S.Res. 208 in honor of National Nurses Week. National Academy of Medicine Unveiled the Future of Nursing Report 2020-2030: Charting a Path to Achieve Health Equity

On May 11, the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) released the highly anticipated Future of Nursing Report 2020-2030: Charting a Path to Achieve Health Equity. This report outlines the role of nurses in advancing health equity and puts forward nine recommendations to reduce health disparities, enable the nursing workforce to address social determinants of health, remove barriers to practice, incorporate nursing’s expertise at all levels, and achieve health equity for all. Further, the Future of Nursing report calls upon schools of nursing to extend education outside of traditional experiences, cultivate inclusive learning environments, and expand their capacity to educate, mentor, and support more faculty members and aspiring nurses from diverse backgrounds.
