COVID-19 Update: Ongoing Focus on Vaccine Distribution and Administration

As the Delta variant spreads across the globe, and as we continue to combat COVID-19 here at home, Congress and the Administration remain engaged in ongoing vaccination efforts. In fact, On June 22, the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee held a hearing titled, “Vaccines: America’s Shot at Ending the COVID-19 Pandemic.” Panelists included medical and education professionals who emphasized the need to meet people where they are as we work to end this public health emergency. On June 24, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) hosted a webinar titled, “Motivate to Vaccinate: National Month of Action for COVID-19 Vaccinations.” As of today, the CDC reports 57.2% of the adult population (18 and up) are fully vaccinated, and 66.2% have received at least one dose, falling short of the Administration’s goal of having 70% of adults receive at least one shot before the Fourth of July. Participants in this webinar also highlighted the multifaceted approach needed to ensure vaccination efforts reach all communities, including racial and ethnic minority populations and rural areas.
