AACN Provides Comments for Nationwide Health Information Exchange

On August 19, AACN submitted comments to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC). The comments were in response to the request for feedback as ONC develops a standardized set of data classes and data elements for a nationwide health information exchange. AACN provided two key recommendations including:

  • Supporting the use of the National Provider Identifier (NPI) as a standard for the “Care Team Member Identifier” data element; and
  • Urging the inclusion of an “Identifier Period” data element to capture when the Care Team Member’s identifier is/was valid.
