AACN Submits Comments on PREVENT Pandemic Act Discussion Draft
At the end of January, the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee released a discussion draft and section-by-section of the bipartisan Prepare for and Respond to Existing Viruses, Emerging New Threats, and Pandemics Act (PREVENT Pandemics Act). In addition, the HELP Committee invited the public to submit comments on the draft legislation. In response to this request, AACN joined with the Federation of Associations of Schools of the Health Professions (FASHP) by sending comments urging the inclusion of the Student Assisted Vaccination Efforts (SAVE) Act to the PREVENT Pandemics Act. AACN also sent our own response to the discussion draft, which highlighted the need for the FAAN Act and mental health resources. AACN reiterated the importance of nurse scientists and researchers, and called for strengthening the current and future public health workforce. To read AACN’s comments, click here. We look forward to working with the Committee as they continue their efforts to finalize the pandemic preparedness bill.
