FY 2023 Omnibus Funding Bill Released Ahead of December 23 Deadline

On December 20, Congress released their Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 Omnibus spending package. This $1.7 trillion bill includes strong increases to programs impacting academic nursing, including:

  • $300.472 million for Title VIII Nursing Workforce Development Programs - A $20 million increase over FY 2022!
  • $197.693 million for National Institute of Nursing Research - A $16.831 million increase over FY 2022! This comes as the National Institutes of Health (NIH) received nearly $47.5 billion.

Thank you to all our AACN Advocates who sent nearly 1,100 messages since September urging members of Congress to increase funding for these vital programs. The hope is Congress will pass this bill before the end of this year; however, deliberations continue. AACN will monitor as Congress considers this funding package and will release an update when we return in 2023. For more information, see current FY 2023 Omnibus bill text, Senate LHHS-ED Summary, House LHHS-ED Summary, and LHHS-ED Explanatory Statement.
