Department of Education Releases New Data on How Pandemic Relief Funds Supported Students

On February 1, the Department of Education released new data on the direct impact the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) had on more than 18 million students. HEERF provided billions of dollars in support to higher education institutions to help ensure learning continued throughout the pandemic. The Department highlighted the success of HEERF, including helping students afford basic needs and remain enrolled in school, keeping colleges open and staff employed, and decreasing the spread of COVID-19. Biden Administration Announces End of Public Health Emergency

On January 30, the Biden Administration announced the plan to end the COVID-19 national emergency and public health emergency (PHE) on May 11, 2023. This announcement comes three years after the initial PHE declaration in response to the pandemic. As we look ahead, AACN will work with our nursing community partners to ensure that models of care successfully implemented during this PHE continue.
