Task Force Updates and Opportunities for Member Feedback

As part of the work to advance AACN's new Strategic Plan, AACN established 5 Task Forces in 2016. Please note the information below on reports and opportunities for member feedback. Final task force reports and position statements will be presented to the membership at the 2017 Academic Nursing Leadership Conference (formerly known as the Fall Semiannual Meeting) and 2018 AACN Deans Annual Meeting (formerly known at the Spring Annual Meeting). 

Academic Progression Task Force

View Task Force charge and members. The final position statement will be presented to the membership for a vote in October 2018. Feedback opportunities included:

  • 2017 Spring Annual Meeting - Task Force Update
  • October 2017 - Task Force report and progress to date presented to Board of Directors
  • November 2017 - Draft statement and call for comments will be posted on the website (November 1-December 18, 2017).
  • November 2017 - Letters sent to stakeholder organizations requesting feedback.
  • November 2017 - Feedback Sessions held at the 2017 Faculty Development Conference and Baccalaureate Education Conference.
  • January 2018 - Draft report and recommendations presented to the Board of Directors for review and comment. 
  • March 2018 - Final statement presented to the Board for endorsement. Status report given to the AACN Membership at the Deans Annual Meeting
  • July 2018 - Final Task Force Report accepted by Board of Directors.
  • October 2018 - Statement presented to the membership for a vote at the AACN Business Meeting. The vote was tabled until March 2019 to allow for edits based on member input.
  • December 2018 - Revised statement sent to the Board of Directors for input on the latest draft.
  • March 2019 - Statement will be presented to the members for a vote during the Annual Deans Meeting in Washington, DC.

AACN's Vision on Nursing Education

View Task Force charge and members. The final statement will be presented to the Board of Directors for endorsement on the September 2018 call and to the membership for a vote in October 2018 at the Academic Nursing Leadership Conference. 

  • 2017 Spring Annual Meeting - Task Force Update
  • October 2017 Task Force report and progress to date presented to the Board of Directors. Substantive input received from the Board.
  • 2017 Academic Nursing Leadership Conference - Task Force Update session provided to the membership.
  • November 2017 - Shared the position statement with a focus group in attendance at the Baccalaureate Education Conference. View Questions Posed. 
  • December 2017 - Conducted an online member survey to assess agreement with assumptions regarding current and future state of health care and higher education. View survey results on agreement and validation of assumptions. 
  • 2018 Deans Annual Meeting - Task Force Update session presented recommendations proposed by the Task Force to membership. View presentation. 
  • AACN Webinar - April 19, 2018 -  Recommendations from the AACN's Vision for Nursing Education Task Force and Opportunity for Feedback
  • Online Survey for Feedback - Public comment period from April 19-May 17, 2018. Feedback received from AACN members was carefully reviewed by the Task Force and where indicated iterative refinements were made.
  • July 2018 - Final statement presented to the Board of Directors for endorsement.
    The introductory statement of doctoral education was added to the recommendations and clarifications were made to some of the language as well as adding more emphasis on global health across nursing education. 
  • September 2018 - Draft Position Statement distributed to membership. 
  • October 2018 - Position Statement presented to the AACN membership.  After further discussion, additional edits were suggested.
  • October-December 2018 - Input from membership was incorporated into the recently revised Position Statement.  Revisions include an Executive Summary, revised headings and grouping of recommendations.
  • January 2019 - New version of Position Statement finalized.
  • February 1, 2019 - Updated draft Position Statement distributed to membership.  
  • March 2019 - Revised statement will be presented to the members for a vote during the Annual Deans Meeting in Washington, DC.
