The AACN Government Affairs Internship, based in our Washington, DC offices, is offered to students in nursing, political science, public policy, or other related disciplines, with an interest in nursing and/or health policy. The internship provides the opportunity to gain first-hand experience in policy process. Students are asked to commit at least 10-15 hours a week. To participate in the internship program, accepted applicants are required to be present in Washington, DC. Length of the internship can be negotiated. This internship is unpaid; however, AACN is willing to participate in any credit-granting procedure with the student’s university.
The program is open to students in AACN member institutions. Verify if your school is an AACN member institution. Applicants must have a strong interest in and commitment to advancing health and nursing related policy.
Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae or resumé, a one-page writing sample (this could be an abstract from a longer academic paper), a cover letter detailing their interest in the work of AACN’s government affairs department, and contact information for two references. Please be sure to indicate in your cover letter your preferred start date and your approximate weekly availability.
